NEC Demands Peace on Election Weekend

PHNOM PENH: The National Election Committee (NEC) has called on all political parties, candidates, supporters and all media to keep the peace from 10:00pm on July 21 until 12:00am on July 23, 2023.

The NEC's appeal was issued on July 21 on maintaining order in accordance with Article 72 of the Law on the National Assembly Election, and noted that the election campaign must end within 24 hours before election day.

The NEC clarifies that everyone must abide by the Law on the National Assembly Election together with the code of conduct for the election.

The committee also said that authorities at all levels responsible for security, public order and other areas of work must cooperate with the NEC and local election commissions to maintain security and public order and to take strict measures to prevent and manage any activities that threaten the election including: preventing people from going to the polls, causing confusion, leading people to lose confidence in the election, disrupting the election process and counting ballots.

The NEC encouraged all political parties, candidates, supporters and all media to take strict action against any activities that violate the law on parliamentary elections, regulations and procedures of the NEC.
